Veterinary Assistant

Full Time: 36-40 hours a week

Open availability with hours varying between 7:30am and 8:00pm on weekdays and a rotating schedule of 1-2 Saturdays a month

Hourly Wage: $10 to $14 an hour based on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery
  • Providing nursing and comfort care
  • Perform treatments or basic laboratory diagnostics tests
  • Position patients for surgery
  • Assists with restraint
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms, treatment room and surgery
  • Assists with laundry including surgical laundry
  • Helps clean/wraps packs before leaving
  • Assists with appointments
  • Stock hospital supplies
  • Help with weekly shipment
  • Assist other employees as needed
  • Promote a positive attitude among staff
  • Show respect for clients, team members and animals always
  • Assist with surgical procedures
  • Cleaning surgical instruments and operating the autoclave and gas sterilizer
  • Assisting with the restraint and positioning with the patients during radiographic procedures
  • Assisting cleaning surgery suite and dental after daily procedures are performed
  • Proper documentation of medical notes and surgical procedures
  • Familiarity with zoonotic procedures and being able to reduce transmission
  • Ability to use proper medical terminology when speaking and writing
  • Being able to properly educate clients
  • Ability to lift objects and animals up to 50lbs without assistance
  • Be able to obtain proper weight, TPR and brief history on appointments
  • Knowledge of patient electronic records, vaccine schedules and other front desk procedures to assist receptionists
  • Clean treatment area and exam rooms between appointments and at the end of the day

  • Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50lbs).
  •  Walks or stands for extended periods or time, frequently works in a bent position

Head Surgery Technician

  • Monday- Friday 8:30am – 5PM
  • Full Time Position
  • $17-20/hr

The Veterinary Center of Hudson (AAHA accredited) is interested in a head Surgery Technician to take lead on our surgeries during the week. Our busy general practice has 4 doctors rotating between 5 surgery days. We specialize in traditional and laparoscopic spays, neuters, soft tissue surgery, endoscopic, and orthopedic procedures along with both routine and extensive dental procedures. We are currently looking for the right, long-term fit for our practice.

Duties

  • Ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical process from check in to discharge
  • Assisting with Pre-Surgical medical screenings, patient induction, surgical preparation and anesthesia monitoring
  • Skilled venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
  • Assisting veterinarian during surgery, surgical set up and recovery
  • Monitoring the health of all surgery patients during the day – both pre-operatively and post-operatively.
  • Scrubbing in to assist with surgical procedures as needed
  • Provide medical information to clients and answer questions as needed
  • Providing training and direction to additional surgical support staff as needed
  • Preparing Go-Home post-operative instructions for our clients and communication of follow-up care
  • Preparing the clinic for the next surgical day – instrument cleaning, surgical pack preparation, surgical laundry maintenance, thorough cleaning of surgery, cages and treatment room
  • Inventory Management for all surgical supplies; ensuring surgical equipment and supplies are in stock and in working order
  • Ensuring all surgical estimates and complete and sent to owners the night prior to surgery

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (3+ years preferred)
  • Experience in anesthesia and surgery is required. We focus on high quality, supportive and personalized care for our clients and their pets.
  • Familiarity/ experience with veterinary surgery, anesthesia protocols and general instrumentation
  • Commitment to hospital core values of “Animal Focused, Owner Friendly. “
  • Must be able to multitask, but is able to be detail oriented
  • Our ideal candidate should possess extraordinary written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be self-motivated, ambitious, compassionate and extremely dependable; eager to learn new skills.  Our team member is to lead by example, providing quality care and customer service.
  • Familiarity with radiology is ideal
  • Must be familiar with capnography and with interpreting EKGs
  • Understanding of aseptic technique
  • Understanding of pharmacology
  • Ideally, a basic understanding of Cornerstone.

Veterinary Pharmacy Technician

The Veterinary Center of Hudson is looking to expand our team at our AAHA accredited hospital. We are currently looking for a team member to oversee our in-clinic pharmacy. We are seeking a detail oriented and self-motivated, independent worker.

Full-Time: 36-40 hours/week

Open availability with hours varying between 7:30am and 8:00pm on weekdays and a rotating schedule of 1-2 Saturdays a month

Hourly Wage: $14-$18 dollars an hour based on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and distributing medications for clients with veterinarian approval
  • Inputting prescription information with proper labels for patients
  • Communicating with clients about their prescription requests and discuss administration of medication
  • Inventory management of pharmaceuticals and supplies 
  • Assisting receptionists with additional phone calls/client communications
  • Managing our phone-in refill program for medications requests
  • Checking prices of pharmaceuticals to stay competitive with online suppliers
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy
  • Check stock for appropriate “shelf life” remaining before expiration
  • Assist with stocking shelves when inventory arrives
  • Complying with all security measures and quality standards
  • Accurately noting communications in patient records
  • Processing over the phone payments of medications
  • Handling outside pharmacy requests and refills
  • Filling in with restraint and helping the veterinary staff when needed

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical laws and medical terminology
  • Pharmacy Technician or Registered Veterinary Technician (preferred)
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Advanced knowledge of veterinary pharmacology
