When is your pet considered a senior? It all depends on the size of your pet. At VCH, we believe a senior dog is typically around 7 years old and a senior cat is usually around 9 years old. The need for early disease detection at these ages is critical for a longer, healthier, more active life. Every senior pet should receive a yearly exam, ocular pressure screening, systemic blood pressure reading, yearly blood work and urinalysis, and biannual chest/abdominal x-rays.
