Andrea Kohut RVT, CPDT-KA, FFCP
From a young age Andrea has been fascinated by everything involving animals and nature. She has so much experience with a wide range of species you would think she was an Irwin! She even famously took her senior pictures with her snakes and bearded dragons. She got her start at the Humane Society of Summit County where she helped take care of pets coming from far from ideal situations. It was here that her fascination with canine behavior began!
She attended Brown Mackie graduating with a degree in Applied Sciences. During school she started working in 3rd shift at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospitals’ Emergency & Critical Care department, and became an RVT in 2016. Although grueling, she gained experience and knowledge that has proved to be invaluable!
Ultimately the unconventional hours and a daily barrage of heartbreaking cases made her seek change. She walked into our family in 2018. (Seriously, she just walked into the hospital one day to drop off her resume!) Since joining our family she has made an immense impact! She helped Bed & Bark become a positive reinforcement facility, worked with her peers to update VCH’s anesthesia protocols, and streamlined our inventory management, and has given our staff an incredible amount of information and guidance! Andrea is a lifelong learner as evidenced by the growing alphabet soup that follows her name! In addition to becoming a Reregistered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in 2016, she became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) in 2019, and she added Fear Free Certified Professional (FFCP) to the list in 2021!
Now serving in a management role at VCH, Andrea has set her sights on developing the next generation of incredible veterinary professionals and has been instrumental in fostering a culture of empowerment, inclusion and growth within our building. Her fur family consists of 2 dogs– Luna and Mac, as well as snakes – Lillith & Charlie and a gecko- Tibbers.
She loves working at VCH/B&B because it’s different than anywhere she has ever worked. Andrea is quite proud of the community she and her peers have helped create, especially the focus on maintaining a healthy work/life balance, which can be rare in our industry. She often jokes that she “retired” by finding VCH/B&B but it’s because she genuinely enjoys coming to work every day. Andrea finds joy in the fact that all of our employees are so different but yet bonded by the love and passion for veterinary medicine and animal wellness as a whole. She finds it refreshing and energizing to be part of such a tight-knit, loving community.
