Zoonotic Disease Control:
Zoonosis is an infectious disease in animals that can be transmitted to humans. At VCH, we understand the major zoonotic diseases and take every precaution when dealing with a contagious animal. Saving the animal’s life while protecting family members, staff, and other individuals, is our number one priority. Some of the common zoonotic diseases include the following:
Rabies, Giardiasis, Ringworm, Scabies, Tuberculosis, Salmonella
Plaque, Lyme Disease, Malaria, Influenza, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
E. Coli, Anthrax, Equine Viral Encephalitis
the diseases above are uncommon, the largest number of zoonotic diseases include roundworms (ascariasis), hookworms (ancyclostomiasis), toxoplasmosis, bartonellosis (cat scratch fever), and leptospirosis. Yearly fecal sediment tests serve as an early detection to preventing transmission.
